Quercus(oak) — English Oak

Quercus 'Robur'

A large, medium growing deciduous tree, with a symmetrical shaped dense canopy. Flowers are inconspicuous whilst leaves put on a beautiful display of yellow/brown and copper tones through Autumn. English oaks are hardy and suited most well drained soils. They prefer full sun. Little pruning is required. This tree stands out in large parks due to its size. They look very majestic and spectacular.

Quercus 'Rubra'

A large, quick growing tree with an upright open dense crown. Bark is smooth grey/green on young branches, darkening with maturity and developing shallow ridges which are smooth surfaced. Underbark is red. During Spring its brown flowers are inconspicuous but Autumn sees a showy foliage display of green to red/browns. Red Oaks make wonderful shade trees in Parks, streets and larger lawn areas. Excellent for buffer zones and can tolerate urban sites with pollution.

Quercus(oak) — Pin Oak

Quercus 'Palustris'

Medium to large tree possibly reaching 22 x 14m with a unique shape due to its mostly drooping branches. Most other oaks are upright or of a horizontal habit. Mid Spring sees green yellow catkins develop which are inconspicuous. Leaves turn from shiny green to a beautiful scarlet in Autumn. Bark is grey/brown and furrowed once mature, while smooth and lighter on younger branches. Pin Oaks are naturally a wet land tree and prefer acidic soils (not limestone). Prefers full sun, frost hardy but these trees do require space. Fantastic for lawned areas, parks and campuses. Its amazing Autumn foliage will be appreciated.

Quercus(oak) — Turkey Oak

Quercus 'cerris'

A large, rapid growing deciduous tree with a rounded dense canopy of glossy green leaves. In Autumn leaves turn yellow/brown whilst inconspicuous brown catkins appear in Spring. Bark is the striking feature of this tree being furrowed with grey further up the trunk and orange towards the base. Turkey oaks have droopy branches and multiple trunks making excellent climbing or specimen trees. Also suited to large urban areas and ideal as a windbreak. Ensure that you plant in well drained soils. Prefers full to part sun and is drought tolerant.
